Global Economic Uncertainty and Rising Energy Costs Pose Risk of Increased Inflation in Pakistan: Finance Minister

Latest Pakistan

Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has warned that inflationary pressure in Pakistan could intensify due to global economic uncertainty and rising energy prices. Furthermore, there is a risk that international conflicts may impact the prices of essential commodities in the global market.

Addressing a session on Pakistan’s long-term economic reform agenda at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), the Finance Minister stated that, despite various challenges, the country’s journey toward economic development continues, and the government is taking steps to stabilize the economy.

According to Muhammad Aurangzeb, the government is planning to meet energy requirements for the winter season, and the supply situation for energy—including crude oil—remains satisfactory.

He noted that the current International Monetary Fund (IMF) program is set to conclude in October of next year. The government is also working to expand the tax base to increase revenue and establish the economy on a sustainable foundation.

The Finance Minister added that the government is providing all possible facilitation to investors, noting that investors from the United States and Eastern Europe have shown interest in Pakistani bonds.

He emphasized that fluctuations in global energy prices and economic conditions present significant challenges for Pakistan. In this context, the government’s key priorities include controlling inflation, meeting energy needs, and ensuring the continuity of economic reforms.
